Its flu season, what can we do to fight it?
My favorite prevention technique is to drink a pot of tea every day during flu season, made from one tea bag each of Yogi “Lemon Ginger’’, and Traditional Medicinals Echinacea Plus, or Echinacea Elderberry teas. Both available at Lifestyle Market: http://lifestylemarkets.com/
Another favorite is a slow simmered ginger and garlic bone broth: with its high mineral content, it provides our bodies with a delicious warm liquid nutrition that will sustain and nurture us through illness, plus support the healing process. Add garlic for the benefit of allicin, a powerful anti fungal, as well as manganese, vitamin B6 & C, and selenium which is proven helpful with cold and flu. Ginger will help counteract nausea and joint pain associated with cold, flu and infection, and its other properties include anti-spasmotic and digestive aid. This is what my son and I ate while he was home with the flu last week, and once we got started eating this super foods loaded broth, it definitely helped keep the worst symptoms to a minimum. I also believe the soup helped me to avoid getting the flu altogether. Pretty remarkable, given that I was his full time care giver for the entire six days he was ill, and avoided becoming ill myself.
